Darrenbarnhart.jpg Darren has been into science his entire life, but paranormal activity has become his passion within the last 10 years. He had a personal paranormal encounter in 2001, when he woke up to find a full-body apparition of an old man standing in his bedroom doorway. This sight was so substantial that Darren searched the entire house looking for him, but found no evidence of an intruder. Darren’s favorite piece of investigative equipment is the EMF detector. His theory on the paranormal is that spirits are pure energy, and although they can manifest in many forms, the common thread is that all energy is made of electromagnetic waves. The EMF detector is able to measure these waves. As a scientist, his first reaction to any evidence of potential paranormal activity is to be skeptical. He comes from a long line of scientists, and holds a Bachelor’s degree from K-State in Environmental Science. In his mind, everything happens for a reason and should be able to be explained scientifically. The thing that Darren likes most about being a member of SPIRiT? “The mix of personalities in our group. We all have different backgrounds with different theories on the paranormal, which makes every investigation new and interesting.”

Rogers.jpg Mona has been focused on the paranormal since she was a child. She was used to seeing things move out of the corner of her eye, and hearing taps on windows and walls when there was no one around. Her favorite piece of investigative equipment is the digital recorder. She really enjoys it when the team is able to hear voices that are responding to questions asked during an investigation. When faced with evidence of paranormal activity, she’s definitely a believer first. Then logic kicks in and she reviews all the possibilities from normal everyday activity. What she likes most about being a member of SPIRiT? “Being a part of the team – it keeps me grounded. Knowing that although we don’t all share the same belief systems, we do all share the same passion for the paranormal… the same drive to seek for answers in the science of paranormal investigation.”

Dick-Godfrey.jpg Dick believes that good, informative investigations and findings based on fact is the best way to combat things that go bump in the night, hidden voices, and strange shadows. “That is what I am about.”

Graham.jpg Jeff has been interested in the paranormal since he was a child, when he lived in a haunted house for two years. Jeff witnessed chairs rocking on their own volition, lights turning on and off at the switch, and shadows moving down the hall. His mother and brother also had encounters. His favorite piece of investigative equipment is the digital voice recorder because he has had the best luck obtaining evidence with it as compared to other devices. When faced with any potentially paranormal activity, he first tries to debunk the evidence, searching for a logical or scientific reason for the activity. If absolutely no logical reason can be found, he is willing to accept that the activity could be paranormal in nature. The thing Jeff likes most about being a member of SPIRiT? “The fun and camaraderie, first and foremost. Secondly, I enjoy the ‘thrill of the hunt’ and the chance to find evidence that just cannot be explained. I want to see this group grow, both in personnel and equipment, and to become the premier ‘turn-to’ group for paranormal activity in central Kansas. I also enjoy helping people facing strange things going on in their homes and to teach them that it’s not going to hurt them.” Jeff is an original founding member of SPIRiT. With a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology and a minor in both Chemistry and Psychology, Jeff brings a scientific approach to Paranormal Research.

johnson2_ed_bw.jpg Sandy has always had a curiosity for the paranormal and unknown. This curiosity has intensified since becoming an adult. She was living in an older home when she was in her twenties and she woke up in the middle of the night to see a full body apparition of a soldier in uniform sitting in a chair. She wasn't frightened, but wasn't quite sure what had happened. Her goal as an investigator is to help people by finding scientific evidence for what is happening in their home. Sandy feels that no one should have to live in fear due to paranormal activity, especially when there are children involved. Anywhere there is activity, she is ready to investigate. “SPIRiT is a great paranormal investigative team to be a part of.”

profile_m.gif Ryan grew up in the small town of Eureka, Kansas and did not have any spooky things happen around him. He often watched “Ghost Hunters” at night to learn about the paranormal from the TAPS team, but never really thought he would be part of a paranormal investigative group. Nonetheless, he loves it and is anxious to have a personal experience with the paranormal.
